Not every renovation needs to be a top to bottom big transformation. For our clients in Coach hill, our task was to remodel the front entry and living room for entertaining and relaxing.
A LIVING ROOM IN THREE PARTS
Our living room renovation had three main pieces that needed a little bit of an overhaul.
KEEPING THE FIREPLACE
It’s rare to find a wood burning fireplace. In this case, our client really wanted to make sure that we kept it without going over budget.
To accommodate we redesigned the fireplace and incorporated the materials that we used with the other two components of this job. This meant that the mantle would match the inset display niches and the tile used for the fireplace gave an updated look while flowing with the TV component and media storage below.
A CLEAN ENTERTAINMENT PIECE
Most TV areas are typically wrought with cables, standalone shelving units that don’t match, and sound components scattered about.
Although we weren’t designing the next in home theatre space, we worked in some new wall-concealed cabling while incorporating some great media storage together with the fireplace base design for a clean minimalistic look.
DISPLAYING FUNCTION AND BEAUTY
When we think of a display niche, we typically don’t think of functional storage inset into a wall. With this project we incorporated both. As a built in feature, we were able to cleanly add beautiful inset cabinetry with accent down lighting to really feature what was on display. In this case (pun intended) the wood storage area was as much an art piece as the south african sculptures that our client so ornately cares for.
We were also able to add the interior wood finish and trim to match the fireplace mantle that tied the two design aspects together quite nicely.
BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER
With many of these older 70’s style homes the living room often comes right off of the entrance area.
We updated the closet entry doors at the top of the stairs with custom cabinet doors and concealed hinges, updated existing railing with a coat of fresh paint, replaced entry floor tile, and painted the entry area to match the new pallet in the living room.
As a final step in the living room, we updated the carpet and added a fresh coat of paint that brought the room to life and tied the two renovated areas together.
